It has been a long time since I posted anything. Well, here is to a new year. Craziness still abounds at our house, on a daily basis it seems. Warning, if you come to our house, anything you say or do may just show up in this blog some day!

It is cold! We are not going to get our gas turned back on, to heat th house. Right now, it is about 27 degrees F outside. We have a fireplace, and electric fireplace, a space heater, and a kerosene heater. Still cold, LOL Not sure if the kerosene, wood, and lectric is any cheaper than the gas bill would be, but at least it is spreading the money around so more people beneift from it's purchase.
I am working at Walmart, as a cashier, now. I love it, especially now at Christmas time. We are very busy busy busy. There was a long and winding line back to electronics Friday morning at 5 a.m., but I thought our store handled it all pretty well. for the money some of the customers were saving during the sale, you would think some of them could have been a little nicer, but I guess you always get those bad eggs no matter where you work, when in a customer oriented business. The majority of the people that went through my line were in a good mood and very nice, even though the stupid debit machine was on overload and mine wasn't working right, we got through it.
Kendra got cast for new braces yesterday. They will be light blue, with butterflies all over them. Pretty cool, and much nicer than plain ordinary white ones. She hasn't worn her braces for over a year. We feel that with her balance issues lately, they could only help. Speaking of balance, Kendra fell last night, and split her head open again. We didn't go for stitches this time, as it was not gaping like the previous times. Just a cut on her head that stopped bleeding pretty quickly. She took some ibuprofen, watched tv for an hour, and went to bed (and I kept checking on her hourly for a few hours). She is not doing very well with her cane, as she keeps tripping herself, or swinging it wide. It is rather pointless, as long as no one will make her walk slow eough, and remind her when to put the cane forward. I seem to be the only one that will do that.
Austin got all As and Bs on his report card, except for the C- in gym (for not taking his gym clohtes). GPA 3.17, not bad. Kendra got 2 Bs and 2 Os (for outstanding). I think she got a c in math, but can't remember. Drew and Kelsi both have As and Bs in all 5 of their classes, but everything except the midterm and final exams, and their essays, is open book. So, all in all, our kids are prtty much average. Guess I can't complain about that.

Happy Birthday To Me
This one was given to me by my other son. It is rather hilarious! My kids spend way to much time cruzin YouTube, LOL
Happy Birthday To Me
I turn 41 today, and my favorite color is orange. My oldest son found these orange people singing to me on You tube for me. Being so old, I am retiring from work on Sunday. Since I didn't get that promotion, I just don't see much point in working there any longer, after 12 years. I am only making .60 more cents than minimum wage, and it stinks! I am considering getting a driving paper route that pays about $20 a day, to help make up some of that cash. Also, with 2 kids in school, and getting free or reduced lunches, our high food cost we had all summer should dramtically decrease! We are paying off a couple of things at Rent a Center, so that will equal about $45 a week in savings.
And, starting Sunday, we are going to start clipping coupons. We spend so much money at Giant Eagle, even though they are expensive, but it is less than half a mile from us. They have double coupons under .99, and they give .20 off a gallon of gas for every $50 you spend (up to 30 gallons). We have used that fuel benefit when it hits so we only have to pay $1 or less for a gallon of gas. Sometimes they have added bonuses, which helps too, where you buy something, and get an extra .20 off a gallon. And if you go to Get Go, and get any sized cupped drink, you get .01 cents off a gallon of gas. We have gotten gas about 6 times since January, where we had to only pay about .50 at the most for a gallon of gas. That helps a lot. You can fill up gas cans too, as long as you don't go over 30 gallons. So, our SUV takes 22 gallons, we take a 6 gallon can, and a 2 gallon can. It lasts us a week or sometimes two!
Kendra is bored, and can't wait until school starts back up September 2nd. Austin doesn't want to start. Kendra will be in 3rd, and Austin in 7th. Kendra's goals for this year are to be more independent, as her 1:1 aide is also the classroom aide also. She is getting big enough to start doing stuff on her own. Sometimes kids with cerebral palsy just accept help because they can, and no one thinks anything of it. It is a learned dependence. Well, that isn't going to happen with her. Each year, we try to require a little more independence from her. Austin, I think we will work on his organization still. Last year, even his special ed teacher gave him afile folder and made him organize his papers and throw out what he didn't need. He carries about 15 pounds of books or binders around, all year, when he doesn't have to. He goes through a lot of bookbags.
Kelsi and Drew are suppose to start Buckeye Online School for Success on Monday, but they are not completely enrolled yet. hopefully, by the end of the day, I can take the correct paperwork over, and then we can talk to an instructional advisor and get them all set up for the classes. The way an online school works is you get a computer package, including a printer/scanner/copier. Then you go to school in a virtual classroom. The school sends you all textbooks and workbooks you need for the classes. A parent must log them in and out of school each day, and they are to spend an hour per subject. That is about all I know at this point.

It wasn't one month, it was 4. Sorry friends. This job has me quite busy, with not a whole lot more pay.
I am still looking for someone to do a portfolio review for the oldest to for homeschooling, and if anyone knows a teacher in Ohio, that needs some extra cash, let me know. Once we get this review done, Kelsi will be in 11th grade, and Drew in 9th. Like one highschooler wasn't enough. At least they are homeschooled and don't have the pressures most highschoolers face.
Austin and Kendra are still in the public school. Austin will be going onto 7th grade. he pulled off the whole year with mostly As and Bs, in special ed. He did get a couple of C's, but we can do average around here, LOL He tries really hard, and is really good at math. He still has problems with organization though. Even the teacher got after him this year, and made him throw most of his papers he carried home for 6 months away.
Kendra is moving on to 3rd grade. This summer, we are working on a few things, like how to email using her Eco. Also, we are hoping to get TestTalker (which turns all worksheets and tests into an electronic format) so she can do everything at school on her Eco (it is a computer as well as a communication device). Also, we want to get her MathPad Plus, so she will be able to write math problems that look like the rest of the class. It lines it all up, regroups, borrows (crosses off numbers), stuff like that, but she does all the work. Kind of hard to do on the computer. We are also hoping to get her using Microsoft Works 9 and get use to it, so she can make her own schedule for school next year, and get use to using it to keep track of homework assignments. It has a calendar on it, and I think learning to use it would help her out a lot. And we are teaching her a little about using a word processor. This way, she will be able to do all of her home and school work on the computer, without the help of an aide or myself. Pretty hefty goals, but we will work to wards them, may or may not reach them this summer.
Kendra also had to go get 4 stitches in the back of her head on the 4th of July. She was dancing with a Ribbon stick, and feel backwards and hit her head on a door hinge. Oh well, it wasn't the first set of stitches, she did great, the doctor was impressed. Looked totally gross as he was sticking that needled down inside for more numbing meds, EW!
I know it seems I talk about Kendra a lot, but she is the only one that isn't a teenager, and the only one that still needs mom, so I spend most of my time with her. We just did revaluations at private therapy. In speech, we have come to the conclusion she has an intelligibility (what people can understand her saying) of about 70%, up from 40-50% 3 years ago when she started kindergarten. I know how much hard work went into each and every sound she makes, as I am in speech with her most of the time, making those sounds with her. She is starting to learn to say the "S" sound a little better, and is starting to add some word endings on her own, without being reminded, which makes her speech a little easier to understand. She is becoming more aware of word endings and sounds. In Physical therapy (gross motor skills), she has managed to improve slightly in her range of motion with her legs. The therapist still needs to adjust her hip or legs every time though, because her right hip ligaments are a little more loose, and tends to not be where it is suppose to be. It makes one leg shorter, and throw off her walking for a couple of weeks. But she is doing great at walking up and down steps, standing and sitting on a bench without plopping down (that takes GREAT leg control muscles, to STOP mid sit and hold it), and not needing her walker at school any more. Still going to send it for recess next year though, because she likes to run with it. It also has a seat on it, so it is useful for assemblies and stuff. Occupational therapy (fine motor skills) is going great too. She can type a 6-7 letter word in 40 seconds on a keyboard. Her eating with a spoon is still problematic, and she hasn't reached 10 consecutive bites with no spills yet, but we are working on that one. She is still having problems fastening her own jeans, but we work on that also. BUT, her writing has improved. She can now write about like a kindergartner does. This is a kid they said would probably never functionally write. She loves to write, but we are still teaching her to use the computer to do so.
Anyway, enough about the kids. The animals, well, we have a batch of 4 kittens if anyone wants one (2 orange, 2 gray tigers), and one of our cats died. Still leaves us a total of 7 counting the kittens. Dogs, we have Eddie, the 8 month old boxer, Koda is about 1.5 years old and is a husky/retriever/chow mix, and Charlie is a brown nosed beagle and the most ornery one of the bunch (he is an escape artist), he is a little over a year old. Still a have 1 chinese water dragon that is getting bigger and may need a bigger tank soon. Just got a red earred slider turtle, she is kind of cool. We set her out to sun bathe, give her showers, and feed her live fish, yuck! We also have a small pond filled with some 6 inch sarasosa comets, a shinbunkin, and some regular old comets (goldfish), that appear to be getting bigger. We threw Kendra's from the carnival out there, and it is still alive.
Wayne is still trucking, even though he is suppose to be on vacation, but worked yesterday and today. Hopefully he gets paid for those days in time. In the past, it has taken up to a month to get us his vacation pay. He had all but last Monday off last week. Him and the boys worked on a go kart they just got all week.
Me, well, keeping busy. We just got new registers at work yesterday, and they are quite awesome. I work every day this week, so ask me in a week how that is going, LOL We had a fire a couple of weeks ago, but it was primarily just a vat fire, less than a $1000 of damage. Paying everyone to come inspect everything and fix the vat was the biggest expense, along with the 170 pounds of shortening we had to pitch because we a fire extinguisher was used.
That's it for now. Hopefully, it won't be another 4 months!

Long last month
My new boss of 5 months quit at work. After 12 years of experience at our store, I decided to ask for consideration for his job. I didn't get it, because I was at the wrong level of knowledge at the wrong time. A couple of more weeks, and I probably would have known what I needed to know, and the higher ups didn't have time to wait.
I was able to double and triple my hours though, and I am now the 2nd in command. This all happened the same week our only other shift manager quit also. That did leave me and our district manager in charge for a few days. I was able to get 97 hours on my last paycheck (yes, overtime pay). So, I have been very very busy.
I need to catch up on some housework now. Hopefully it won't be another month until I post again. I am hoping to let my youngest child to use this blog for a writing exercise, so if you see some weird stuff, remember, she is only 8!

Blah winter
Anyone else have the mid winter blues? I think mine started after I got a $450 gas bill for one month last week, and my husband got a second speeding ticket within a week, which was a week after I had my ft ever speeding ticket. We are working to pay for speeding to work!
It is just all slushy, grey, and muddy outside today. Just a BLAH day I guess.
I was able to get some very cool reading comprehension books from big Lots for only $1.75 a piece for Kendra. They come with a cd, and she can do the whole workbook all by herself. Very neat!

Intellitools Classroom Suite 4!
Intellitools Classroom Suite 4 is out now. Here is the demo for it, good for 30 days. For what this program can do, it is really worth the money for special needs kids. It is much easier to use and author than 3 was.

CP comes in handy!
Here is a very bad situation. My husband drives a semi that hauls steel. This morning, he left, to go pick up his trailer to leave for the week. It was gone! To a trucker's family, with 4 kids, this represents 1/5 of his weekly income, to miss one day's work. This was a brand new trailer that he has had for a few months, and cost his boss $40,000+. The same person also stole 200 gallons of fuel from another trucker that leaves his truck parked down there. He called me, and asked me to come down there, and wait for the police, while he asked neighboring places if they saw anything. Well, as soon as the police and him hooked up, I left, to go pick Kendra up from school for private therapy.
Well, My mind must have been elsewhere going to school (wonder why?). I Went to speech therapy with Kendra. Then, I watched and listened, as she got her first 100% on a spelling test. then, we ate lunch together at school (by the way, I don't recommend grilled cheese sandwiches as hard as a rock, LOL). On the way to therapy, I saw a trailer sitting on the corner near the school. A local trucker parks his trailer here all the time, but he drives a box truck, not a flatbed. I pulled in behind it, and saw it, and it just didn't look familiar to me, but I glanced at the license plate, and I wasn't sure what state was on my husband's trailer. So, I called on the cell phone when I was half way down the road. I half jokingly asked him what state was on his trailer. Well, that got my attention, when it matched. So, I turned my car around, and went to look at the plate number. I asked him what it was. I told him he could come pick up his trailer. then, the police grilled me on how I knew it was his (a steel company employee had run a forklift into it when it was 2 weeks old, and the hole is still there).
My whole point is, had I not gone to the school, at THAT time, or on THIS day, to pick Kendra up for therapy 25 miles away, that trailer probably never would have been recovered. We had a lot of money put into tarps, chains, tools, and all kinds of stuff that was under the tarp on his header board. It was all there. I thinnk I deserve a reward from his boss, for fidning his 40 thousand dollar trailer, right? LOL
